Lead in Organic Dark Chocolate?!

Read the forbes.com article here.

Recent research shows that many “healthy” brands of dark chocolate, including certified organic, are high in lead and other heavy metals. As many of us choose these products because we care for our health this is extremely sad and disappointing. I wish I had more comfort to offer you, but this has surprised me too.

You might be tempted to throw up your hands in frustration at all the road blocks we have to be healthy and it’s true, there are many, but we also have tools to help us continue to achieve our goals.

The truth is, much of our food is contaminated. Even certified organic brands have been found to contain pesticide and herbicide residue.

Even though it’s difficult at times, I encourage you to keep going and continue on your health and wellness journey. Here are a few tips to help you.

  1. Choose certified organic whenever possible. It may not be perfect, but the contamination levels are still much lower than in conventional foods.
  2. Vary the brands of food you buy. Most brands source their ingredients from the same farm/region, and contamination levels can vary widely between growing areas. By varying the brands and stores  you shop from you increase the likelihood you’ll be choosing at least some products that are as clean as possible.
  3. Make sure you’re detoxing your body regularly. I choose to detox with PBX for my cells and Pure Body Drops for my digestive tract. Keeping up on my detox is even more important during this season of typical over-indulgence.
  4. Replacing trace minerals is important when removing toxins and heavy metals from the body. You can find one brand of trace minerals I use here.

As always, I’m available to help you navigate the sometimes confusing world of health and wellness. If you need a plan to detox for 2023, I hope you’ll keep me in mind. If you’d like to discuss your options, book your free 30 minute consultation here.
