How I’m detoxing during
quarantine
With this unprecedented opportunity to stay home we have been gifted with, why
don’t we allow our bodies to detoxify? You probably know I’m a huge fan of
making my own products, but even so there are some prepared things I use daily.
As I’m staying home almost every day now, other than the occasional grocery
run, I’m giving my body an extra chance to detoxify from commercial products.
Here are a few ways you can improve your health while you stay home, while you
also reduce product usage, dependence and expense. This is, in a nutshell,
simplifying by doing and using less.
If you haven’t already, stop wearing makeup. Even the best quality products
still coat your skin. Allow your skin to breathe while you nourish it with
chemical-free cleansers and oils.
Oil cleansing is a treat for your face. Smooth a nice, organic, if possible
carrier oil over your face and neck. I love almond oil, grapeseed oil or
apricot kernel oil. If you have makeup on, use a tissue to gently remove most
of your makeup. With a very warm, wet washcloth, remove the rest of the oil,
makeup and dirt from your skin.
Follow that with a homemade serum: spritz rosewater on your skin, then place a
drop of frankincense essential oil and 3-5 drops argan oil in your palm and rub
together. Smooth oil over your rosewater-damp face and neck.
Castor oil helps regrow hair. Rub a drop of organic castor oil along eye lashes
and brows to encourage growth. Yes, it’s thick but don’t worry. It usually
takes several weeks to notice the results – don’t give up!
Detox your scalp from hair products. Simply stop using them! Find a non-toxic,
organic shampoo, or research no-poo methods. If you condition, use just a bit
near the ends (avoiding scalp) or substitute diluted apple cider vinegar.
Vinegar helps dissolve mineral deposits on your hair and makes hair shiny and
healthy. Let your hair air-dry naturally.
Give your scalp a hair-growth treatment every few days. Combine 2-3 drops
rosemary essential oil and 1-5 drops (depending on hair length/thickness) argan
oil in your palms and rub together. Apply to scalp first, then through to ends.
Rosemary helps stimulate hair follicles to re-grow hair. Whenever I do this
regularly I notice lots of baby hairs within a month or so, and eventually it’s
thicker overall. When I forget or become too busy or stressed it thins a bit.
Consider a super-hair growth overnight mask. Using organic castor oil, which is
very thick, comb as much as you can throughout your hair, roots to ends, and
wrap hair in plastic wrap and/or an old t-shirt or towel and fasten securely.
This is super-hydrating and healing for your hair and also helps promote
re-growth. If the castor oil is too thick you can dilute with a lighter oil,
such as grapeseed or coconut.
Detoxify your body from chemical (read: fragranced) soaps and lotions. Try
using simple organic castile soap and a bit of silky organic oil instead of
moisturizer.
Remove nail polish and use this time to allow your nails to heal and breathe.
Do a nightly hand and foot massage with coconut oil and lavender essential oil
to moisturize, encourage healthy nail growth, reduce fungal infections and
promote relaxation.
Since we’re all in the same boat, remember to use this time to appreciate what
you do have. Get back to nature and make your body happy!
Do you think you’ll try any of these ideas? Let me know what looks interesting!
Love and Light,
